Also known as the “laughing hyaena” due to its howl, the Spotted Hyena is the most abundant of the large predators in Africa.

Their coats are brown/grey with an irregular spotted pattern and are rough with a unkempt/scruffy appearance.

They live in most regions of Africa, but mainly in the Savannahs where they form groups, known as clans, numbering upto 80.

Even though they scavenge amongst the kills of other predators, they are also successful predators themselves and are capable of bringing down large antelope when hunting as a pack.
